Moments after landing in Toronto this evening, former Toronto Blue Jays head coach Cito Gaston—a legendary figure in the franchise’s history—delivered a powerful and unexpected message to current manager John Schneider and the entire Blue Jays organization.

Now actively involved in media and recently having launched his own podcast, “Behind the Dugout with Cito,” Gaston has remained closely connected to the game. But today, his comments struck a deeper chord with fans and players alike.

Speaking just minutes after touching down at Pearson International Airport, Gaston told a crowd of reporters:

“I’ve been watching closely. This team has talent, no doubt—but what I’m not seeing is the heart. You don’t win championships with numbers on paper. You win with leadership, discipline, and grit. That’s a message for John Schneider, for the front office, and for every man in that clubhouse.”

The two-time World Series champion (1992, 1993) didn’t hold back, further stating:

“Toronto expects more. Canada expects more. It’s time to wake up.”

The comments come amid a turbulent period for the Blue Jays, who have struggled to find consistency late in the 2025 season. Speculation is now swirling about potential changes within the organization, and Gaston’s remarks are certain to fuel ongoing debates about team leadership, clubhouse culture, and postseason potential.

While Schneider has yet to publicly respond, sources close to the team say the message has already made its way into the locker room—and it’s being taken seriously.
