In a move that underscores their long-term vision and commitment to a high-energy core, the Vancouver Canucks have officially signed winger Conor Garland to a six-year, $36 million contract extension, the team announced today.

Garland, 29, has become a cornerstone in the Canucks’ lineup with his tenacious playing style, consistent offensive production, and locker-room presence. The deal carries an average annual value (AAV) of $6 million and ensures that the Canucks retain one of their most versatile and relentless forwards well into his 30s.

“This is a big day for us,” said Jim Rutherford, President of Hockey Operations for the Canucks. “Conor has shown exceptional growth over the last few seasons. He’s the kind of player who brings it every night — he’s gritty, smart, and tough to play against. We’re thrilled to keep him in Vancouver for the foreseeable future.”

Garland, who was acquired from the Arizona Coyotes in a blockbuster trade in 2021, has since cemented himself as a fan favorite at Rogers Arena. Known for his fierce forechecking, strong puck possession skills, and underrated playmaking, Garland posted 56 points (22 goals, 34 assists) in 82 games during the 2024–25 season — his best as a Canuck.

“I’m beyond excited to stay in Vancouver,” Garland said in a statement. “This city has embraced me and my game, and I believe in what we’re building here. I want to be part of a winning culture, and I’m ready to take that next step with this group.”

The deal also reflects the Canucks’ confidence in their emerging roster, which includes stars like Elias Pettersson, Quinn Hughes, and Thatcher Demko. Garland’s extension adds veteran stability and complements the younger talent on the team.

Sources close to the team suggest that negotiations had been ongoing since early May, with Garland’s agent emphasizing the player’s desire to stay in Vancouver rather than test free agency next summer.

“This wasn’t just about money,” said Garland’s agent. “It was about fit, future, and mutual respect. Conor believes this team is headed for great things, and the front office made it clear they see him as part of that.”

With the extension now finalized, Garland will remain under contract with the Canucks through the 2030–31 season — a significant commitment for both the player and the franchise.

What This Means for the Canucks’ Cap Picture

While the $6 million AAV isn’t insignificant, it fits into Vancouver’s long-term salary structure. The front office has shown increasing discipline in recent years when it comes to cap management, and this deal appears to reflect that balance — rewarding performance while keeping future flexibility intact.

Looking Ahead

Garland’s re-signing is the first major move in what could be a busy offseason for Vancouver. With a playoff berth narrowly missed last season, expectations are rising — and locking down Garland sends a strong message of intent.

The puck may not drop for a few more months, but one thing is clear: Conor Garland will be a key part of the Canucks’ push toward contention for years to come.
