TOUCH DOWN: A move that has sent Shockwave Across NHL _ Buffalo Sabres General Manager Kevyn Adams has been…

In a move that has left fans and insiders stunned, Buffalo Sabres General Manager Kevyn Adams has been relieved of his duties, sending immediate shockwaves through the National Hockey League. The decision, confirmed by team president John Roth late Wednesday night, comes just weeks before the start of preseason training camp — and after what many considered one of the most aggressive offseasons in franchise history.

Adams, who took over as GM in 2020, was seen as a stabilizing force in a period of flux for the Sabres. Under his leadership, the team executed a bold rebuild, parting ways with marquee players like Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart, while stockpiling draft capital and developing young stars like Owen Power and Tage Thompson. This past season, Buffalo came within striking distance of the playoffs for the first time in over a decade.

Yet, despite the forward momentum, sources close to the organization suggest internal disagreements between Adams and ownership may have contributed to his sudden dismissal.

“We thank Kevyn for his tireless work and dedication to the Sabres,” said Roth in a brief statement. “However, we feel a change in direction is necessary as we look to elevate our performance and capitalize on the foundation that’s been laid.”

The NHL community reacted swiftly. Former players, GMs, and analysts expressed disbelief across social media, with many questioning the timing — especially given Adams’ recent moves in free agency, including the high-profile signing of veteran goaltender Juuse Saros and top-four defenseman Matt Dumba.

Hockey Night in Canada analyst Elliotte Friedman said the move “raises more questions than answers.”

“Adams built a core that was starting to click. He brought stability to a franchise that desperately needed it. For him to be dismissed now suggests something deeper behind the scenes.”

The Sabres have not yet named an interim GM, but assistant GM Jason Karmanos is widely expected to assume day-to-day responsibilities in the short term. Ownership has indicated that a “comprehensive search” for a permanent replacement will begin immediately.

As for Adams, no public comment has been made, though league insiders believe he won’t be unemployed for long.

This seismic shift leaves Sabres fans with more questions than answers: Who will take the reins? Will the new GM continue on Adams’ developmental trajectory — or tear it down for a fresh start?

One thing is clear: in Buffalo, the clock just reset.
