In a stunning and heartfelt gesture that’s captured the admiration of fans nationwide, former Golden State Warriors head coach Mark Jackson has donated his entire $15.5 million personal fortune to the Warriors’ new stadium project, expressing unwavering loyalty and love for the franchise that helped shape his coaching legacy.

The donation, announced Saturday morning, was made directly to current Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, who Jackson described as “a brother and a visionary leader.” The money will go toward expanding and modernizing the team’s next-generation training and development complex—part of the Warriors’ broader “Dynasty Forward” initiative, which aims to prepare the team for a dominant future.

“The Golden State Warriors’ pride lives within me wherever I go,” Jackson said during a press conference at Chase Center. “This team, this fanbase, this culture—we built something special. And even though I’m not on the sidelines anymore, my heart has never left.”

Jackson coached the Warriors from 2011 to 2014, laying the foundation for the championship dynasty that followed under Steve Kerr. Despite his departure before the team’s first title win in 2015, Jackson has remained a vocal supporter of the franchise and its players.

Kerr, visibly moved by the gesture, called Jackson’s donation “a symbol of unity, humility, and long-term vision.”

“Mark laid the groundwork. Without him, we wouldn’t be where we are today,” Kerr said. “This gift is extraordinary—not just because of its size, but because of what it represents.”

The $15.5 million will help fund construction of a state-of-the-art player development wing, expanded community outreach facilities, and eco-sustainable enhancements to the Warriors’ new campus, which is currently set to break ground in 2026.

Fans and players have already taken to social media to express their appreciation, with Stephen Curry posting:

“Coach Jackson always believed in us—this just proves it again. Legend.”

Jackson closed the press event with a simple but powerful statement:

“You don’t stop being a Warrior when you leave. You just support in a different way.”
