In a stunning and emotional announcement that has sent ripples of excitement throughout the basketball world, the Golden State Warriors have named former NBA head coach and NCAA legend Mark Jackson as their new Chief Athletic Officer.

This move marks a triumphant return for Jackson, who previously served as the Warriors’ head coach from 2011 to 2014—laying the foundation for the dynasty that followed. Known for his fiery leadership and deep basketball IQ, Jackson is now set to take on a broader executive role, helping shape the future of the franchise on and off the court.

The announcement was made during a joint press conference attended by current head coach Steve Kerr, who praised Jackson’s return as “a full-circle moment” for the organization. Kerr’s family and several prominent members of the NCAA community were also present, highlighting the wide-reaching impact of Jackson’s legacy.

“Mark Jackson is more than a coach—he’s a visionary, a mentor, and a pillar of the basketball community,” said Kerr. “We’re honored to welcome him back in this new capacity.”

As Chief Athletic Officer, Jackson will oversee player development, community engagement, and strategic athletic initiatives, both within the Warriors organization and in partnership with collegiate programs across the country.

NCAA leaders also voiced support, calling Jackson’s return “a bridge between the collegiate and professional worlds that can elevate both.”

Fans have flooded social media with support and nostalgia, recalling Jackson’s role in nurturing stars like Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green during the early 2010s.
