In a monumental show of pride and generosity, Kansas State University football legend Darren Sproles has made headlines nationwide by donating his entire $15.5 million personal contribution to support the construction of a new state-of-the-art football stadium — a move that cements his legacy both on and off the field.
Sproles, a former Wildcat and NFL great known for his explosive speed and dynamic playmaking, announced the donation this morning alongside Head Coach Chris Klieman at a special press conference held at the Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
“The Kansas State pride lives within me wherever I go,” Sproles said, his voice full of emotion. “This program gave me everything — a family, a platform, and a purpose. Now it’s time I give back in a way that secures its future for generations to come.”
The $15.5 million gift — the largest single donation from a former player in school history — will be used to spearhead the construction of a new football facility that promises to transform Kansas State’s athletic landscape. The project, already in the design phase, will include upgraded training centers, advanced recovery and wellness technology, expanded fan seating, and enhanced student-athlete facilities.
Head Coach Chris Klieman, clearly moved by the gesture, praised Sproles not just for his athletic legacy but for his enduring commitment to the Wildcat family.
“Darren has always led by example — on the field, in the locker room, and now as a philanthropist and role model. This is a game-changer for our program, and a message to our players: being a Wildcat doesn’t end when you leave campus.”
Sproles, who starred at Kansas State from 2001 to 2004, still holds multiple school records and went on to have a storied 15-year NFL career with the Chargers, Saints, and Eagles. Despite his professional success, he’s remained closely tied to Manhattan, Kansas, frequently attending games, mentoring athletes, and now playing a pivotal role in shaping the program’s next chapter.
A New Era for Kansas State Football
The upcoming stadium project — now turbocharged by Sproles’ gift — will be named the Sproles-Klieman Athletic Complex pending final board approval, a symbolic nod to both leadership and legacy. Construction is set to begin in spring 2026, with doors expected to open for the 2027 football season.
Athletic Director Gene Taylor called the gift “a watershed moment” for the university.
“Darren didn’t just give us financial support — he gave us belief. This is Wildcat pride at its absolute finest.”
As for Sproles, he made it clear this is just the beginning of his renewed commitment to the university.
“I’ll always be a Wildcat. This place built me. Now, I’m helping to build it for the next generation.”
One thing is certain: Kansas State’s future just got a lot brighter — thanks to the heart of one of its greatest.
