The Edmonton Oilers and their passionate fanbase are celebrating a major development in the organization’s front office. In a stunning and nostalgic move, former head coach and Oilers legend Craig MacTavish is making his triumphant return to the team—this time in a new dual leadership capacity.

MacTavish has been officially appointed to represent Stan Bowman in his role as General Manager and will also serve as the Vice President of Hockey Operations for the Oilers.

This decision marks a powerful reunion between the storied franchise and one of its most respected figures. MacTavish, who coached the team from 2000 to 2009 and led the Oilers to the 2006 Stanley Cup Final, brings with him a wealth of experience, both behind the bench and in the front office. He previously held executive roles with the club, including a stint as General Manager from 2013 to 2015.

Fans are already buzzing with anticipation, as MacTavish’s return signals a strong commitment to blending the Oilers’ rich history with a forward-looking vision for success. Known for his strategic mindset, leadership acumen, and deep-rooted connection to the team, MacTavish is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the roster and hockey operations heading into the 2025–26 NHL season.

The partnership with Stan Bowman, a three-time Stanley Cup-winning executive, further bolsters Edmonton’s management core, aiming to create a powerhouse organization poised for long-term success.

“This is a homecoming that just feels right,” said an Oilers spokesperson. “Craig’s history with the Oilers is unmatched, and his hockey mind is as sharp as ever. Pairing him with Stan Bowman gives us an elite leadership group.”

The Oilers have not commented on immediate changes to the coaching staff or roster decisions, but sources indicate that major strategic plans are already underway.

With Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl still in their prime and an invigorated front office, Oil Country may be entering a bold new era of dominance.
