The Best We Could Hope For: Seven Years Since the Capitals First Stanley Cup

On June 7, 2018, the Washington Capitals achieved a historic milestone by winning their first-ever Stanley Cup, defeating the Vegas Golden Knights 4–3 in Game 5 of the Finals. This victory ended a 44-year wait for the franchise and was a long-awaited triumph for the city of Washington, D.C., which hadn’t celebrated a major professional sports championship since the Redskins’ Super Bowl win in 1992 .
