THE BEST WE COULD HOPE FOR: Thunder’s Jalen Williams Makes NBA Finals History During Game 5 vs. Pacers… view more
In Game 5 of the 2025 NBA Finals, Jalen Williams delivered a historic performance, leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 120–109 victory over the Indiana Pacers. Williams scored a playoff career-high 40 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter, propelling the Thunder to a 3–2 series lead and bringing them one win away from their first NBA championship since 1979.
The Thunder, who had previously squandered a large lead in Game 1, maintained their composure this time. Despite the Pacers cutting an 18-point deficit to just two in the fourth quarter, Oklahoma City responded with a decisive 10–0 run, with Williams scoring eight of those points. Teammate and MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added 31 points and 10 assists, while the Thunder capitalized on Indiana’s 23 turnovers, converting them into 32 points.
The Pacers faced challenges, with star guard Tyrese Haliburton limited to just four points due to a calf injury. Pascal Siakam led Indiana with 28 points, and T.J. McConnell contributed 18 off the bench.
Game 6 is scheduled for Thursday in Indianapolis, where the Pacers will attempt to force a decisive Game 7. Historically, teams that win Game 5 in a tied NBA Finals series have a 74% chance of clinching the title, positioning the Thunder favorably.
