Tage Thompson: Love Beyond the Ice

When Tage Thompson first met Rachel, he wasn’t thinking about love. In fact, love was the last thing on his mind. The NHL was calling—loudly. At that point in his life, everything revolved around hockey. The workouts, the film sessions, the long road trips, the physical grind—it was all-consuming. And romance? That was something for another time, another version of himself.

But life, as it often does, had other plans.

“I’ll be honest—I didn’t think too much of it,” Tage admits, thinking back to that first meeting. “She wasn’t what I expected, not at all.”

In the chaotic world of professional sports, expectations are constant—about performance, appearance, even relationships. But Rachel didn’t fit into any preconceived box. He had to learn how to be vulnerable—how to feel in a world that often demanded he push feelings aside. And in Rachel, he found a partner who didn’t just tolerate that process, but helped guide him through it.

“She didn’t try to fix me or change me,” he says. “She just stood by me. Listened. Showed up. That meant more than anything.”

Off the ice, their connection grew into something unshakable. Rachel became the calm in his storm, the grounding force that reminded him who he was outside of the jersey. Through the wins and the losses, the trades, the injuries, and the endless headlines, she stayed the same—kind, consistent, and unwavering.

In a sport where the spotlight can sometimes blind you, Rachel helped Tage see clearly. And today, when you ask him what he values most, he doesn’t hesitate.

“Hockey’s my passion,” he says. “But Rachel… she’s my hom
