In a move that’s sending shockwaves across the NHL, Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog has reportedly agreed to join the Seattle Kraken, ending an iconic era in Denver.

Sources close to the negotiations confirmed late Wednesday night that Landeskog, who has spent his entire NHL career with the Avalanche, has decided to take on a new challenge in the Pacific Northwest. The veteran forward is expected to sign a multi-year deal with Seattle in the coming days.

A Franchise Legend Leaves Denver

Landeskog, drafted second overall by the Avalanche in 2011, has been the heart and soul of the team for over a decade. Under his leadership, Colorado captured the Stanley Cup in 2022 and remained a consistent playoff contender. Known for his grit, scoring ability, and locker room presence, Landeskog’s departure marks the end of an era.

“This was one of the hardest decisions of my life,” Landeskog said in a brief statement released through his agent. “Colorado will always be home, but I feel it’s time for a new chapter and a new challenge.”

Seattle’s Big Statement

The Kraken, who entered the league as an expansion team in 2021, have been aggressively building a playoff-caliber roster. Adding Landeskog not only boosts their offensive power but also brings veteran leadership and championship experience to a relatively young squad.

Seattle GM Ron Francis called it “a monumental moment” for the franchise.

“We are thrilled to welcome a player of Gabe’s caliber. His leadership, toughness, and winning mentality are exactly what this organization needs as we push toward a Stanley Cup run.”

What’s Next for the Avalanche?

Colorado now faces a significant leadership vacuum with Landeskog’s departure. While the team still boasts star power with Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar, replacing their longtime captain — on and off the ice — will be no easy task.

Insiders say the Avalanche front office is already exploring options in free agency and trade talks to fill the void.

Stay tuned for updates as the deal becomes official and Landeskog is introduced as the newest member of the Seattle Kraken.
