In a heartfelt appeal to Collingwood supporters, star defender Brayden Maynard has expressed his deep connection to the club and its fans, even as his future with the Magpies remains uncertain.
Maynard, 28, is currently an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2025 AFL season, attracting significant interest from rival clubs, notably North Melbourne. The Kangaroos have reportedly tabled a lucrative five- to six-year deal worth up to $1 million per season to lure him away from the Magpies .
Despite the tempting offer, Maynard’s loyalty to Collingwood is evident. Negotiations between the club and Maynard’s management have intensified in recent weeks, with discussions focusing on a new deal that would keep him at the club, albeit at a reduced salary compared to North Melbourne’s offer .
Collingwood CEO Craig Kelly acknowledged the challenges in retaining Maynard, stating, “But if someone desperately wants him and wants to pay him a heap more for a longer period of time, everyone should be going, ‘Good luck mate, if that opportunity is there, even though we’d love you to be here, we want you to be here'” .Maynard’s commitment to the club was further highlighted during an emotional post-match interview following his 200th game, where he dedicated the win to a close friend who had recently passed away. “I absolutely love this club, I love these boys,” he said. “I’m getting a little bit emotional because it’s been a big couple [of weeks] for me.
