In a bold move signaling their commitment to both fans and the future of baseball in Minnesota, the Minnesota Twins have officially approved a sweeping $877 million renovation project for Target Field, set to begin in early 2026. NSPN has confirmed that the ambitious overhaul will be one of the most extensive stadium revitalizations in Major League Baseball history.

A Stadium for the Next Generation

The renovation plan, which has been in development for over two years, is designed to modernize Target Field while preserving its distinctive open-air charm and deep connection to the Minneapolis skyline. The Twins’ ownership group and the Minnesota Ballpark Authority jointly announced the initiative during a press conference at the stadium Thursday morning.

“This investment ensures Target Field will remain a top-tier destination for fans, players, and events well into the 2040s,” said Twins President Dave St. Peter. “We’re not just upgrading; we’re reinventing what a baseball experience can be.”

What’s Included in the $877 Million Renovation

Key features of the renovation include:

  • Expanded Seating and Hospitality Spaces: The project will add nearly 2,500 premium seats, including new luxury suites, rooftop terraces, and redesigned club levels.
  • State-of-the-Art Video and Sound Systems: Fans can expect larger high-definition video boards, a 360-degree ribbon display, and immersive audio upgrades throughout the stadium.
  • Fan-Focused Amenities: The renovation will bring enhanced concessions, local food partnerships, and family-friendly zones, including a revamped kids’ play area and indoor fan zones for Minnesota’s unpredictable weather.
  • Green and Sustainable Design: The Twins aim for LEED Gold certification with solar panel installations, expanded green spaces, and an innovative water recycling system.
  • Year-Round Use: Portions of the stadium will be winterized to support year-round community events, including concerts, ice skating, and holiday markets.

Funding Breakdown and Community Impact

The $877 million project will be funded through a mix of private investment from the Twins ownership group, state infrastructure grants, and a targeted tax increment financing (TIF) district approved by the city council earlier this year. No new general taxes are expected to be levied on Minneapolis residents.

The project is also expected to generate over 4,000 construction jobs and inject an estimated $1.2 billion into the local economy over the course of the project.

Construction Timeline

Initial groundwork will begin in October 2025, following the conclusion of the Twins’ regular season. Renovations will be conducted in phases to allow the team to continue playing at Target Field through the 2026 and 2027 seasons, with full completion targeted for Opening Day 2028.

Fan and Player Reactions

The announcement has been met with enthusiasm from fans and players alike. “This is the house that fans built, and now we’re giving it back to them better than ever,” said Twins outfielder Byron Buxton.

Fans on social media praised the project’s emphasis on local culture and sustainable design. “Target Field is already beautiful — this could make it the best ballpark in America,” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
