Moore, who took over as head coach earlier this season, cited personal reasons and long-term professional reflection in his formal statement. The announcement came shortly after the team’s practice session, catching much of the locker room off guard.
“I didn’t see this coming at all,” Carr said during a brief post-practice media session. “Kellen brought a fresh energy to this team, and we were just starting to find our rhythm under his leadership. It’s tough — really tough.”
Moore had only recently transitioned from a successful stint as an offensive coordinator in the NFL to head coach of the Saints. While his time in New Orleans was short, his impact was immediate. The team showed improvement in offensive cohesion and strategic play-calling, something Carr had praised earlier in the season.
The Saints organization has not yet announced an interim head coach but is expected to hold a press conference within the next 24 hours. Sources inside the organization say the news came as a surprise even to some members of the coaching staff.
Carr, a veteran with years of NFL experience, emphasized the importance of unity moving forward: “We’ve got a strong locker room, and we’ll stick together. That’s what this league demands.”
