The University of Kentucky men’s basketball program is adding a familiar face to its coaching bench for the upcoming season. Former college standout and rising coaching talent Jaylan Green has officially joined the Wildcats as a graduate assistant for the 2025–26 campaign, the program announced Friday.
Green, a former guard known for his leadership and high basketball IQ during his collegiate playing days, steps into a new role on the sidelines as he begins his coaching journey under head coach Mark Pope. His addition signals the continued investment Kentucky is making in developing the next generation of basketball minds.
“Jaylan brings an incredible energy and work ethic to everything he does,” said Coach Pope. “He’s someone who understands the game at a high level, connects naturally with players, and is committed to learning the ins and outs of coaching. We’re thrilled to have him on board.”
Green’s playing career included a strong stint at the Division I level, where he built a reputation as a versatile guard and team-first competitor. Since graduating, he has remained close to the game, participating in various player development camps and mentorship programs, setting the stage for a natural transition into coaching.
As a graduate assistant, Green will be involved in a variety of key areas, including player development, film breakdown, scouting, and practice planning. He’ll also be pursuing graduate studies through the university, balancing academic and athletic responsibilities as part of Kentucky’s broader support system for aspiring coaches.
“I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity,” Green said in a statement. “To be part of a historic program like Kentucky is an honor. I’ve always admired the culture here, and I’m excited to learn, grow, and contribute in any way I can.”
Kentucky fans can expect Green’s presence to have a positive impact both on and off the court. With a player-first approach and a passion for mentorship, his role will be instrumental in helping the Wildcats maintain their standard of excellence as they look ahead to the 2025–26 season.
For a program steeped in tradition and championships, the addition of Jaylan Green adds yet another layer of promise to an already ambitious year.
