In a move already being dubbed “the worst decision in franchise history”, New York Knicks owner James Dolan has once again stunned the NBA world—and not in a good way.
Dolan, whose controversial tenure as owner has been marked by turbulence and high-profile clashes, announced today that the Knicks will be parting ways with head coach Tom Thibodeau and replacing him with a first-time coach with no prior NBA experience—former rock musician and close Dolan confidante, Mick Harland.
Fans and analysts alike were left speechless.
“This is CHAOS. We just made the playoffs, and now this?” tweeted ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, who followed up with a fiery 5-minute on-air rant.
Social media erupted, with #SellTheTeam and #FireDolan trending within minutes of the news breaking.
Sources close to the organization say Dolan was “inspired by creativity over credentials” and sees Harland as someone who can bring a “new kind of rhythm” to the Knicks locker room. Many are calling it another example of Dolan prioritizing personal interests over basketball logic.
Former players, including Knicks legend Charles Oakley, weren’t shy about their feelings.
“This is a joke. I’ve seen a lot of bad decisions… this one might top them all,” Oakley said during a livestream.
The Knicks front office has yet to provide a press conference, but fans are already organizing protests outside Madison Square Garden.
