In a major leadership move ahead of training camp, the New Orleans Saints have officially named quarterback Derek Carr as one of the team captains for the upcoming 2025 NFL season. The announcement, made Sunday morning by head coach Dennis Allen, signals the franchise’s strong belief in Carr’s leadership and vision as they aim for a playoff comeback.
Carr, who is entering his third season with the Saints, expressed deep gratitude for the trust placed in him.
“It’s an honor to wear the ‘C’ on my chest for this team and this city,” Carr said. “We’ve got something special building here, and I’m ready to lead us through the grind of this season.”
The Saints finished the 2024 season with a disappointing 8–9 record, missing the playoffs for the third consecutive year. However, after a series of off-season acquisitions—including standout rookie wide receiver Malik Banks and veteran safety Jordan Poyer—the mood around the Saints’ facility has shifted toward optimism.
Coach Allen praised Carr’s work ethic and connection with the team:
“Derek’s leadership has been on full display since day one. He commands the huddle, mentors younger guys, and brings poise under pressure. That’s what we need to win.”
Other captains named include linebacker Demario Davis, wide receiver Chris Olave, and offensive lineman Ryan Ramczyk.
Training camp kicks off next week at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center in Metairie, with fans eager to see if this new-look Saints squad can finally return to playoff form and make a deep run in the NFC South.
