In a move that solidifies the Golden State Warriors’ long-term vision, star shooting guard and team captain Klay Thompson has officially signed a contract extension worth $200 million that will keep him in the Bay Area through 2030.

The announcement, confirmed by Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Klay Thompson’s agent, comes after months of speculation about the veteran sharpshooter’s future. The new deal secures Thompson’s services for another five seasons and positions him to retire as a lifelong Warrior.

“This organization means everything to me,” Thompson said during a press conference at Chase Center. “The fans, my teammates, and the city of Oakland and San Francisco — this is home. I want to bring at least one more championship here before I hang it up.”

The 35-year-old Thompson, a five-time NBA All-Star and four-time NBA champion, has been a pillar of the Warriors dynasty alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. Despite recent injuries and shifts in the roster, Thompson had a strong 2024-2025 season, averaging 19.7 points per game and shooting 41.3% from beyond the arc.

The $200 million deal places Thompson among the league’s highest-paid veterans and underscores Golden State’s commitment to preserving their championship core while developing younger talent like Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody.

Golden State head coach Steve Kerr praised the extension, saying, “Klay is the heart of this team. His leadership, his work ethic, and his clutch performances — we’re lucky to have him locked in.”

With this deal, the Warriors continue their pursuit of another title while honoring one of the most beloved figures in franchise history.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate what just happened: Klay Thompson, the smooth-shooting, unflappable heart of the Warriors dynasty, just signed a $200 million extension to stay with Golden State through 2030.

That’s not just a contract. That’s a legacy deal.

After all the injuries, all the trade rumors, and the whispers that maybe his time in the Bay was coming to a close, Klay just reminded the world: he’s not going anywhere.

This extension means Klay will very likely retire as a Warrior, something increasingly rare in today’s NBA. And honestly? It feels right. He’s given everything to this team — including two brutal rehabs — and in return, the Warriors just gave him one more vote of confidence.

He deserves it.

He’s still one of the most dangerous catch-and-shoot players in the league. He’s still that guy who once dropped 37 points in a quarter. And he’s still the voice of calm and confidence every time this team hits turbulence.

Sure, $200 million is a lot for a player on the back nine of his career. But this isn’t just about stats — it’s about what he means to the franchise. He’s family.

Now the big question: Can this aging core pull off one last title run?

With Steph, Draymond, and now Klay all locked in, the window is still cracked open. And with this move, the Warriors have made it clear: they’re not rebuilding — they’re going for it.
