A wave of emotion and admiration swept through Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Thursday morning as Indiana Pacers star forward Pascal Siakam announced an extraordinary act of generosity. In a heartfelt press conference attended by teammates, staff, and community leaders, Siakam revealed he is donating his entire $18.9 million performance bonus and recent sponsorship earnings to fund the development of a major homeless shelter and housing project in his hometown of Douala, Cameroon.
The project, set to break ground later this year, will include 150 housing units and 300 shelter beds, providing critical support for displaced families, youth, and elderly citizens living in the margins of one of Cameroon’s largest cities.
“I’ve seen the effects of homelessness firsthand growing up,” Siakam said, his voice steady but emotional. “I knew if I ever had the means, I’d give back in a meaningful way. No one deserves to sleep outside, no child should have to grow up without the security of a roof over their head. This is personal for me.”
Born and raised in Douala, Siakam’s journey from a humble childhood in Cameroon to NBA stardom has long inspired fans across the globe. Known for his relentless work ethic and dedication to the game, he has also quietly supported causes related to education, youth empowerment, and housing in both North America and Africa. However, this latest move marks his largest and most impactful philanthropic endeavor to date.
The donation will be channeled through the PS43 Foundation, Siakam’s nonprofit organization, in partnership with international housing development groups and local Cameroonian NGOs. The initiative not only aims to provide emergency shelter and permanent housing, but will also offer vocational training, mental health support, and educational resources on site.
“This isn’t just about buildings,” Siakam said. “It’s about restoring dignity. It’s about helping people find stability and hope again. These shelters will be places of transition, healing, and growth.”
Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle, who attended the announcement, called Siakam’s act “an inspiration to the entire organization.”
“Pascal brings leadership on and off the court. What he’s doing here is bigger than basketball,” Carlisle said. “He’s using his platform and his blessings to lift others up in a truly transformational way.”

Back home in Douala, the announcement was met with celebration and gratitude. Local leaders praised Siakam for remembering his roots and taking action at a time when homelessness in Cameroon, worsened by economic instability and population growth, remains a significant challenge.
“Pascal Siakam is a son of the soil,” said Bernard Ateba, director of a local shelter organization. “What he is doing will change lives. This isn’t just a donation—this is a legacy.”
Siakam has made it clear that he will continue to be involved in the project’s development, planning multiple visits throughout the construction process and pledging long-term support to ensure the shelter’s success.
“This is only the beginning,” he said. “I want this to serve as a model for what’s possible—not just in Cameroon, but anywhere people believe in community, compassion, and change.”
