ESPN has confirmed that the New York Knicks, in collaboration with ownership group Knicks Rising, have officially approved a massive $775 million renovation project for Madison Square Garden set to begin in early 2025.
The iconic arena, often referred to as “The Mecca of Basketball,” is slated for a state-of-the-art overhaul that will modernize infrastructure, enhance fan experiences, and reaffirm its place as one of the world’s premier sports venues. The renovations will include:
Upgraded seating and suites with luxury features
Advanced digital displays and immersive fan technology
Revamped locker rooms and training facilities for players
Sustainable energy solutions to reduce environmental impact
Expanded concourses and enhanced accessibility features
James Dolan, executive chairman of Madison Square Garden Sports Corp., stated, “This is more than just a facelift — it’s a commitment to New York, to basketball, and to the fans who pack the Garden night after night. We’re investing in the future of Knicks basketball.”
Construction is scheduled to begin during the Knicks’ 2025 offseason, with phased renovations continuing into 2026 to minimize disruptions during the regular season.
The move comes amid growing momentum for the franchise, following back-to-back playoff appearances and the emergence of young stars under head coach Tom Thibodeau. Fans and analysts alike see the project as symbolic of a franchise finally turning a corner — both on and off the court.
The Knicks Rising ownership group has not ruled out the possibility of introducing naming rights, a move that could inject even more funding into the historic overhaul.
