Dallas Mavericks Sign Two New Players: Moussa Cisse and Matthew Cleveland

The Dallas Mavericks are making strategic moves in the offseason, announcing the signings of two promising young players: center Moussa Cisse and forward Matthew Cleveland. The additions come as the Mavs continue to reshape their roster around franchise cornerstones Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving, aiming to build a more athletic and defensively capable team heading into the 2025–26 NBA season  Moussa Cisse**, a 7-footer known for his elite shot-blocking and rebounding, brings size and rim protection to the Mavericks’ frontcourt. Originally from Guinea, Cisse played collegiate basketball at Memphis and Oklahoma State before going undrafted in 2023. He spent time in the G League, where he refined his game and caught the eye of several NBA scouts. At just 22 years old, Cisse is seen as a high-upside project who could evolve into a valuable backup center or defensive specialist.

**Matthew Cleveland**, a 6-foot-7 wing, enters the fold after a standout college career split between Florida State and Miami. Known for his slashing ability, midrange scoring, and rebounding from the wing position, Cleveland offers versatility on both ends of the floor. Though his three-point shooting is still developing, his athleticism and effort on defense could earn him a rotational role quickly under head coach Jason Kidd.

The Mavericks’ front office, led by GM Nico Harrison, has emphasized youth and defensive improvement this offseason. The signings of Cisse and Cleveland align with that philosophy, especially as Dallas looks to bolster its depth following a deep playoff run in 2025 that exposed some roster weaknesses.

Cisse will compete for minutes behind Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II, giving Dallas more options in the paint, especially against bigger teams. Cleveland, meanwhile, will likely be used as a utility wing — a role that the Mavericks have needed to fill since the departure of veterans like Tim Hardaw

Both players are expected to participate in the Mavericks’ Summer League campaign in Las Vegas, where they’ll have the opportunity to showcase their skills and earn a spot on the regular-season roster. While neither is expected to be a primary scorer, their ability to contribute in specific roles could be vital as the Mavs navigate the long grind of the regular season.

“These are two young men with real talent and high character,” said Jason Kidd in a statement. “We’re excited to bring them into our culture and help them grow as professionals. They both bring something we

With Cisse and Cleveland joining the roster, the Mavericks now have increased flexibility in their lineup construction. Whether these signings translate into regular-season impact or longer-term development projects, it’s clear the team is investing in building around a core that blends experience with emerging talent.

As training camp approaches, all eyes will be on how these two young players adapt to the NBA stage — and how they fit into a Dallas squad looking to contend once again in the Western Conference.
