After a decade anchoring the Indiana Pacers’ defense and serving as a cornerstone of the franchise, veteran center Myles Turner is taking his talents to the Milwaukee Bucks. Turner has officially signed a 4-year, $108.9 million contract, citing his desire to chase a championship and compete at the highest level.
A New Chapter
Turner, 29, spent his entire NBA career with the Pacers after being drafted 11th overall in 2015. Over 10 seasons, he became one of the league’s most reliable rim protectors, leading the NBA in blocks twice and averaging 2.3 blocks per game over his career. While Indiana saw sporadic playoff appearances, the team never advanced past the first round during his tenure.
“I’ve given everything I had to the Pacers organization, and I’ll always be grateful for my time there,” Turner said in his introductory press conference with Milwaukee. “But at this point in my career, I’m hungry to win. The Bucks have a culture of excellence and a championship mindset—this is the right move for me.”
Why Milwaukee?
The Bucks are coming off a deep playoff run and have solidified themselves as perennial contenders in the Eastern Conference. With Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard still under contract, Milwaukee adds Turner as a key piece to bolster their frontcourt, especially on the defensive end.
The team’s General Manager praised Turner’s versatility: “Myles brings elite rim protection, floor spacing, and veteran leadership. He fits our system perfectly, and we believe he can help elevate us back to championship contention.”
Turner’s ability to stretch the floor (a career 35% shooter from three) and defend the paint should complement Giannis’ slashing and rebounding prowess, giving the Bucks a balanced frontcourt tandem.
Legacy in Indiana
Turner leaves Indiana with a complicated but ultimately respected legacy. He ranks among the Pacers’ all-time leaders in blocks, rebounds, and games played. While some critics point to his limited offensive growth, his impact on defense and professionalism off the court earned him a strong following among Pacers fans.
“I hope the fans remember me as someone who showed up every night and gave it my all,” Turner reflected. “I’m proud of what we built in Indiana, even if we didn’t reach all our goals.”
Looking Ahead
With a four-year deal worth nearly $109 million, the Bucks are clearly betting on Turner’s ability to impact winning immediately. The Eastern Conference remains competitive, but Milwaukee’s core—with Turner now in the fold—looks poised to make a serious push for the 2026 title.
As one chapter ends for Myles Turner, a new one begins—with championship dreams finally in sight.
