In a move that has thrilled fans and reaffirmed his lifelong commitment to the black and white, Scott Pendlebury, one of the most celebrated figures in Collingwood Football Club history, has confirmed he will remain involved with the club following his retirement from AFL.

After an extraordinary career spanning over two decades, more than 380 games, and countless accolades—including six Copeland Trophies, All-Australian selections, and a premiership in 2010—Pendlebury announced earlier this month that the 2025 AFL season would be his last. But in a heartfelt press conference held today at the Holden Centre, Pendlebury revealed that his story with Collingwood is far from over.

“This club has given me everything,” Pendlebury said. “Retiring from playing doesn’t mean stepping away. I love this place, and I want to continue contributing in any way I can.”

While the details are still being finalised, Pendlebury is expected to take on a development and mentoring role within the club, working closely with Collingwood’s emerging talent and younger midfielders. The club is also exploring options to involve him in strategic planning, drawing on his elite football IQ and unmatched experience.

Club president Jeff Browne welcomed the news, stating:

“Scott Pendlebury is more than just a champion player—he’s the heartbeat of Collingwood. Having him involved post-retirement is an incredible asset. His leadership, professionalism, and knowledge of the game are second to none.”

Pendlebury’s ongoing presence at the club is expected to have a significant impact, especially on rising stars such as Nick Daicos, Finn Macrae, and Ed Allan, who have all spoken highly of Pendlebury’s mentorship on and off the field.

Supporters have flooded social media with praise for the decision, with many calling it a “perfect transition” for a player who has become synonymous with the club’s identity.

As one fan posted:

“Scott Pendlebury is Collingwood. The club wouldn’t be the same without him, and now it won’t have to be.”

Pendlebury’s legacy is firmly cemented in Collingwood’s history, and while his playing days may be ending, a new chapter is just beginning—this time from the sidelines, where his influence will continue to shape the next generation of Magpie greatness.
