Breaking: Two young stars would probably be included in any blockbuster trade including Kevin Durant between the Suns and Rockets. John Gambodoro, an NBA insider, disclosed How…

In what could become one of the most seismic trades of the NBA offseason, veteran superstar Kevin Durant is reportedly at the center of trade discussions between the Phoenix Suns and the Houston Rockets. According to long-time NBA insider John Gambodoro, any serious trade package involving Durant would almost certainly include two of Houston’s most promising young talents.

Speaking on his radio show earlier today, Gambodoro stated, “If the Suns were to engage with the Rockets in real talks for Durant, you can bet names like Jalen Green and Jabari Smith Jr. would come up. The Suns aren’t moving Durant for just picks or depth pieces — it would have to be real talent coming back.”

The 36-year-old Durant remains one of the league’s elite scorers, but the Suns face pressure to reshape their roster after back-to-back disappointing playoff exits. With a top-heavy salary structure and limited draft capital, Phoenix may be forced to consider parting ways with one of their Big Three — Durant, Devin Booker, or Bradley Beal — in order to regain balance and depth.

Houston’s Interest and Timeline

The Rockets, meanwhile, are an up-and-coming squad loaded with young assets and draft flexibility. After a strong showing in the 2024–25 season under head coach Ime Udoka, Houston is believed to be ready to accelerate their rebuild into a playoff push. Acquiring Durant, despite his age and hefty contract, could instantly vault them into Western Conference contention.

Still, giving up core pieces like Green — the high-flying shooting guard entering his fourth season — or Smith Jr., a versatile two-way forward, would be a significant gamble for Houston’s front office. Some league insiders believe the Rockets might offer a package centered around one of those two, combined with picks and salary filler such as Dillon Brooks or Steven Adams.

Suns’ Perspective

For Phoenix, the calculus is clear. After a second-round playoff loss this year, the team must find a way to build a more complete roster around Booker, or consider breaking up the superstar trio entirely. Durant still holds considerable trade value, and teams like Houston — with a wealth of assets and ambition — may represent the best return.

Whether the Suns are truly willing to part ways with Durant remains to be seen. But as Gambodoro emphasized, “They’re not shopping him, but they’re listening. That’s a big difference.”

What’s Next?

With the NBA Draft just days away and free agency looming, the window for a potential blockbuster is narrow but real. If talks between the Suns and Rockets intensify, expect the names of Green and Smith Jr. to dominate headlines — along with the future of one of the game’s all-time greats.

Stay tuned as more details emerge in what could become the defining move of the 2025 offseason.
