In a heartfelt move to honor one of the Golden State Warriors’ most legendary figures, team owner Joe Lacob has approved a significant financial contribution to establish a memorial initiative dedicated to the late **Nate Thurmond**, who passed away in 2016. The fund will support various community programs, youth basketball development, and educational scholarships in Thurmond’s name.
Thurmond, a Hall of Famer and one of the most dominant big men in NBA history, spent the majority of his career with the Warriors organization — first in San Francisco and then in Golden State. He was known for his rebounding prowess, defensive tenacity, and unmatched leadership both on and off the court. His No. 42 jersey was retired by the franchise and hangs in the Chase Center rafters.
**Joe Lacob** expressed his admiration for Thurmond in a statement:
