FG Announces ₦100,000 Grant for Nigerian Footballers

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a new grant program aimed at supporting footballers across the country. The initiative, which will provide ₦100,000 to each beneficiary, is designed to assist both professional and grassroots players in meeting their financial needs.

The Minister of Sports and Youth Development, while making the announcement in Abuja, stated that the grant is part of the government’s broader plan to support sports development in Nigeria. According to him, many footballers struggle with financial challenges, and this initiative is aimed at easing their burden.

“This grant is a way of empowering our footballers, many of whom lack the necessary financial support to advance their careers. Whether they need funds for training, medical care, or equipment, this support will go a long way in helping them,” he said.

The grant is open to both male and female footballers, including those playing in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL), as well as grassroots and amateur players. The application process will be conducted online, and interested footballers will be required to provide proof of their involvement in the sport.

Football stakeholders have praised the initiative, calling it a positive step toward improving the welfare of players in the country. A representative of the Players’ Union described the grant as “a timely intervention,” especially for young footballers who struggle to make ends meet.
