BREAKING NEWS: Dallas Stars Part Ways with Head Coach Peter DeBoer; Edmonton’s Glen Gulutzan Emerges as a Strong Contender

The Dallas Stars have officially parted ways with head coach Peter DeBoer following a disappointing end to their 2025 playoff run. The decision comes after the Stars were eliminated in the Western Conference Final for the third consecutive year under DeBoer’s leadership. A particularly controversial moment was his decision to pull starting goaltender Jake Oettinger just over seven minutes into Game 5, following two early goals. Backup Casey DeSmith, who had not played since April 26, was inserted but also struggled, leading to a 6-3 loss and elimination from the playoffs.

General Manager Jim Nill emphasized the need for a “new voice” to help the team achieve its Stanley Cup aspirations. DeBoer, who had a 149-68-29 regular-season record and a 29-27 playoff record with the Stars, previously led the San Jose Sharks, New Jersey Devils, and Vegas Golden Knights to multiple playoff appearances.

Gulutzan, who has been with the Oilers since 2018, has a wealth of coaching experience, including previous head coaching stints with the Dallas Stars and Calgary Flames. He also served as head coach of the AHL’s Texas Stars, leading them to the Calder Cup Final in 2010.

Gulutzan’s familiarity with the Stars organization, combined with his extensive coaching background, makes him a compelling option to consider. However, any potential move would require coordination between the Stars and the Oilers,
