In a heartwarming move off the court, Tennessee Volunteers standout Dalton Knecht has made headlines once again—this time not for his buzzer-beaters, but for his generosity. The rising basketball star is investing $6.3 million to convert a historic property in downtown Nashville into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youth.

The shelter, which will be named The Knecht House of Hope, will provide housing, education, counseling, and job readiness programs for young people facing homelessness. The project is set to open its doors in early 2026 and is expected to support over 100 youth annually.

“This is bigger than basketball,” Knecht said during a press conference. “I’ve been blessed with so much, and I wanted to create something that lasts—a place that gives young people the safety and tools they need to rewrite their stories.”

The initiative is in partnership with local nonprofit Youth Haven Nashville, which specializes in services for at-risk and homeless youth. Construction and renovations are already underway, with Knecht personally involved in the design and planning.

Fans, teammates, and public figures across the country are praising Knecht for his selfless act. Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes commented, “Dalton’s always been a leader, but what he’s doing now shows his true character.”

This is not Knecht’s first foray into philanthropy—he’s previously funded youth sports camps and education programs in his hometown of Thornton, Colorado.

As the Volunteers prepare for another promising season, Dalton Knecht’s impact is proving to be just as powerful off the court as it is on it.
