BREAKING NEWS: Former Steelers GM Kevin Colbert Signs New Contract to Return as Team Advisor Amid Front Office Shake-Up

In a stunning and unexpected development, the Pittsburgh Steelers have announced that former General Manager Kevin Colbert is returning to the organization in a new role aimed at restoring the franchise’s competitive edge.

Colbert, who retired from his GM duties in 2022 after two decades with the team, has signed a multi-year deal to rejoin the Steelers front office as Senior Football Advisor, effective immediately. The team confirmed the move early Friday morning, citing Colbert’s “unmatched football intellect, deep institutional knowledge, and enduring leadership.”

“Kevin is part of the Steelers family, and we’re excited to bring him back in a role where he can help shape the future of this team,” said Steelers President Art Rooney II in a statement. “His experience is second to none.”

Colbert’s return comes amid internal restructuring after a pair of underwhelming seasons and a series of front-office changes. Sources close to the organization suggest his involvement will center on draft strategy, roster development, and mentorship of younger executives — though there is growing speculation he may take on an even larger leadership role depending on the team’s direction in the coming months.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin expressed excitement at the news during a brief press conference.

“Kevin helped build some of the greatest teams in Steelers history. Having his voice back in the room is invaluable,” Tomlin said.

Colbert served as general manager from 2000 to 2022, overseeing two Super Bowl titles and 11 playoff appearances. During his tenure, he was credited with drafting franchise legends like Ben Roethlisberger, Troy Polamalu, and T.J. Watt.
