BREAKING NEWS Perfect trade to fix Magic’s dreadful shooting is just a complicated negotiation away of… details more.
The Orlando Magic, fresh off a disappointing playoff exit that spotlighted their glaring lack of perimeter shooting, may finally have a solution in sight—and it’s a big one.
League sources tell The Athletic Hoop Insider that the Magic are deep in trade talks centered around acquiring sharpshooter Buddy Hield from the Philadelphia 76ers in a multi-team deal that could also involve the Utah Jazz.
The framework, while still fluid, reportedly includes:
Orlando Magic receive: Buddy Hield
Philadelphia 76ers receive: Wendell Carter Jr., 2026 second-round pick
Utah Jazz receive: Cole Anthony and cash considerations
Hield, who shot 40.2% from deep last season, would instantly fill the Magic’s most painful void: reliable outside scoring. Orlando finished 28th in the league in 3-point shooting percentage and 30th in made threes per game.
“A player like Hield opens up the floor for Paolo [Banchero] and Franz [Wagner] in a way no one on the roster currently can,” an unnamed Eastern Conference scout said. “This is the move they’ve needed.”
However, insiders caution that the negotiations are “complex” due to overlapping salary cap implications and Philadelphia’s reluctance to part with Hield without acquiring another veteran piece in return.
Still, optimism is growing that a resolution could come before the NBA Draft on June 26.
