Breaking News: Canada Life Forest City Road Races Boost Prize Money by One-Third, Attracts Record Participation

The 43rd annual Canada Life Forest City Road Races (FCRR), held on Sunday, June 8, 2025, in London, Ontario, marked a significant milestone in the event’s history. For the first time, the race organizers increased the prize money by one-third, resulting in a record number of participants and heightened competition across all race categories.

Increased Prize Money to Attract Elite Athletes

The prize money for the ASICS RunKeeper Half-Marathon was notably enhanced, with the top male and female finishers each receiving $2,000, up from the previous $1,500. Similarly, the BackRoads Brews + Shoes 10K and M&T Printing Group 5K races saw their prize purses increased by 33%, offering $1,000 and $500 for first place, respectively. This strategic move aimed to attract elite athletes and elevate the overall competitiveness of the event.

Record Participation and Community Engagement

The increased prize money contributed to a surge in registrations, with over 5,000 runners participating in the various events, including the half-marathon, 10K, 5K, and the McDonald’s Kids Fun Run. The event not only showcased top-tier athletic performances but also emphasized community involvement, with proceeds benefiting the Thames Valley Children’s Centre and other local charitable organizations.

Enhanced Race Experience for Participants

In addition to the financial incentives, the FCRR organizers introduced several enhancements to improve the participant experience. These included professionally certified courses through Athletics Ontario, a VIP Race Day Experience offering amenities like private washrooms and massage areas, and a festive atmosphere with live music and a beer garden during the awards ceremony.

Looking Ahead

The success of the 2025 Canada Life Forest City Road Races underscores the positive impact of increased prize money on event participation and competitiveness. As the event continues to grow, it sets a precedent for other road races in Canada to consider similar enhancements to attract elite athletes and engage the community.
