New Orleans, LA — Netflix has officially released “The Underdog,” a powerful new documentary chronicling the inspiring journey of NFL icon and New Orleans Saints legend Drew Brees. Slated for global release on May 10, 2025, the film promises an in-depth and emotional look at one of the greatest quarterbacks in football history.
Directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Ava Martin, “The Underdog” delves deep into Brees’ underdog story—from being overlooked in college recruitment due to his height, to a devastating shoulder injury that nearly ended his career, to ultimately becoming a Super Bowl champion and one of the most beloved figures in New Orleans sports history.
The documentary features never-before-seen footage, exclusive interviews with teammates, coaches, and family members, and personal reflections from Brees himself. Viewers will witness his pivotal 2006 signing with the Saints, his leadership in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the unforgettable 2009 Super Bowl XLIV victory that unified an entire city.
Speaking on the project, Brees shared, “This film isn’t just about football. It’s about perseverance, belief, and the incredible bond between a city and its team. I’m honored to share my story with fans in a way that’s never been done before.”
“The Underdog” is already generating major buzz, with early critics calling it “raw,” “inspiring,” and “a must-watch for football fans and beyond.”
The film is now streaming exclusively on Netflix worldwide.
