In a remarkable gesture of loyalty and generosity, former Kentucky Wildcats basketball star Kenny Walker has donated $21 million to the University of Kentucky to help fund the renovation of Rupp Arena, the iconic home of Kentucky basketball.
Walker, known affectionately as “Sky Walker” for his legendary leaping ability, went on to enjoy a successful NBA career after leading Kentucky to national prominence in the 1980s. His record-breaking donation is one of the largest ever made by a former Wildcat athlete and will directly support sweeping upgrades to the arena, including new training facilities, fan experience enhancements, and a modernized design that honors the rich tradition of Kentucky basketball.
“This program helped shape who I am, both as a player and as a person,” Walker said during an emotional announcement ceremony. “It’s only right that I give back and help ensure the next generation of Wildcats has every opportunity to succeed — on and off the court.”
University officials praised Walker’s generosity, with Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart calling the gift “a game-changer” for the future of Kentucky basketball.
Renovations are expected to begin in early 2026, with plans to unveil a newly named “Walker Pavilion” inside Rupp Arena to permanently honor Kenny Walker’s legacy.
