As of March 4, 2025, there have been significant changes within the Detroit Lions coaching staff:
Offensive Coordinator Ben Johnson: In December 2024, Johnson declined a contract extension with the Lions, expressing his intention to pursue other opportunities, possibly as a head coach.
Defensive Coordinator Aaron Glenn: Glenn has been in discussions for head coaching roles with teams such as the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints.
Head Coach Dan Campbell: Reports from early February 2025 indicate that Campbell resigned due to criticisms following quarterback Jared Goff’s decision to leave the team.
These departures have led to a substantial overhaul of the Lions’ coaching staff. The team has promoted Kelvin Sheppard from linebackers coach to defensive coordinator. Additionally, new hires include John Morton as offensive coordinator and David Shaw as passing game coordinator.
The Lions are now focused on integrating the new coaching staff to build upon their recent successes and aim for a deeper playoff run in the upcoming season.
