In a rare and emotional outburst, St. Louis Blues captain Brayden Schenn did not hold back following the team’s disheartening 6-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday night. Visibly frustrated during the post-game press conference, Schenn voiced his disappointment with the team’s lackluster effort and accountability.
“I am so disappointed,” Schenn said bluntly. “We’ve got too much talent in this locker room to be putting up performances like that. It’s not acceptable, and honestly, some guys need to look in the mirror.”
The loss marked the Blues’ third consecutive defeat, and tensions appear to be mounting as the team struggles to find consistency halfway through the season. The Blues were outshot 38-21 and trailed for nearly the entire game, showing little energy or pushback.
Schenn, a respected veteran and known for his team-first mentality, was particularly critical of the team’s defensive zone breakdowns and lack of effort on the backcheck.
“We can’t just float around expecting someone else to do the work,” he said. “We’ve talked about this over and over. It’s time for actions, not words.”
Head coach Drew Bannister, who has recently faced growing scrutiny from fans and media alike, acknowledged Schenn’s comments and emphasized the need for change.
“Brayden is our captain for a reason,” Bannister said. “He’s passionate and he cares deeply. We’ve got to regroup fast — this league doesn’t wait for you to figure things out.”
Fans have also taken to social media to express their frustration, many supporting Schenn’s candid remarks while others question whether bigger changes are needed at the roster or management level.
The Blues, currently sitting outside the playoff picture, will have little time to recover as they face the surging Dallas Stars on Tuesday night in what now feels like a must-win game.
