In a rare and emotionally charged moment, Seattle Mariners shortstop JP Crawford didn’t hold back after Sunday’s crushing loss to the Houston Astros, voicing his deep frustration with the team’s recent performance. The Mariners dropped their fifth straight game, falling 7-2 in a matchup marked by defensive errors, weak at-bats, and lackluster energy — and Crawford made it clear he’s had enough.

“I am so disappointed,” Crawford said during a post-game interview, shaking his head. “This isn’t who we are. This isn’t how we’re supposed to play. We have too much talent in this clubhouse to keep letting games slip away like this.”

Crawford, a respected veteran and vocal leader in the Mariners’ clubhouse, slammed not only the overall effort but also the accountability among teammates. While he didn’t name individuals, his tone was direct and unfiltered.

“Some guys need to look in the mirror. You can’t just show up and expect to win — this league doesn’t work that way,” he said. “If you’re not ready to fight for every pitch, every play, you’re letting the whole team down.”

The Mariners, who came into the season with playoff aspirations and one of the most promising rotations in the AL, have been inconsistent for weeks. A mixture of injuries, slumps, and shaky bullpen performances has seen them fall to third in the AL West, now trailing both the Texas Rangers and the surging Astros.

Crawford, hitting .282 with a .374 OBP this season, has been one of the few steady performers. He’s widely admired for his hustle and leadership, and Sunday’s comments reflect his passion to see the team succeed.

“I’m not giving up on this team. But we need to wake up — fast. The fans deserve better. We deserve better.”

Manager Scott Servais responded to Crawford’s comments with support, acknowledging the team’s poor play and expressing hope that a veteran voice like Crawford’s could spark a turnaround.

“He’s frustrated — and rightfully so,” Servais said. “We’ve got a lot of baseball left, but we’ve got to fix this now. That fire JP has? We need everyone to feel that.”

The Mariners will look to regroup on Monday as they begin a three-game home series against the AL-leading Baltimore Orioles — a critical stretch that could define their season.
