Former Wisconsin Badgers head coach Paul Chryst, who joined the Texas Longhorns football program in 2023 following his departure from Wisconsin, has made headlines once again—this time by publicly addressing current Badgers head coach Luke Fickell.
Chryst, who was fired midway through the 2022 season after a lengthy tenure in Madison, reportedly sent a message to Fickell that has sparked interest across the college football world. While the full contents of the message have not yet been disclosed, sources close to the situation indicate that Chryst offered a combination of words of encouragement, professional insight, and a warning about the challenges of maintaining program identity amid shifting expectations.
“I’ve been where you are, and I know the weight of the ‘W’ on your chest,” Chryst is believed to have said. “Wisconsin is more than just a football program—it’s a culture. Don’t lose sight of that.”
The message arrives as Fickell continues to implement his own system and vision at Wisconsin, drawing mixed reactions from fans and alumni as the team adjusts to a new era.
Chryst, now working under Steve Sarkisian at Texas as an offensive analyst, has largely stayed out of the spotlight since his exit. However, this latest gesture suggests he still holds deep ties to the Wisconsin program—and perhaps a desire to ensure it remains true to it
s roots.
