In a move that has thrilled fans and sparked excitement throughout the NHL community, former Nashville Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne has officially returned to the organization —
this time behind the bench. The team announced today that Rinne has been appointed as the Senior Goaltending Coach, marking a new chapter in his storied relationship with the franchise.
Rinne, 42, spent his entire 15-season NHL career with the Predators, becoming a franchise icon and one of the league’s most respected netminders. Known for his acrobatic saves, leadership, and loyalty to the team, Rinne retired in 2021 and had remained involved with hockey at various levels, including mentoring young players in Finland.
“This organization means the world to me,” Rinne said at a press conference. “I’m honored and excited to come back in a role where I can help shape the next generation of Predators goaltenders.”
The move comes as part of a broader development strategy by General Manager Barry Trotz to reinforce the team’s goaltending depth and build a stronger support system for rising star Juuse Saros and other prospects in the pipeline.
Rinne’s return has already generated a wave of positive reactions from fans and former teammates alike. His jersey, which was retired in 2022, still hangs proudly at Bridgestone Arena — now with the man himself once again walking .
