In a monumental development for college basketball, Purdue University has officially broken ground on a state-of-the-art grandstand and VIP suite expansion for its men’s basketball program. The new facility will boast a staggering seating capacity of 14,804, marking a historic investment in the future of Boilermaker basketball.
University officials, alumni, and fans gathered just moments ago for a ceremonial groundbreaking event at Mackey Arena, where construction crews and architects unveiled renderings of the new grandstand design. The upgraded complex will include premium VIP suites, enhanced fan amenities, modernized locker rooms, and cutting-edge technology to elevate both the athlete and spectator experience.
“This is more than just a construction project — it’s a legacy-building moment,” said Purdue Athletic Director Mike Bobinski. “The expansion honors our tradition while ushering in a new era of excellence and fan engagement.”
The upgraded seating capacity makes the new facility one of the largest in the Big Ten and reinforces Purdue’s commitment to remaining a powerhouse in NCAA Division I basketball.
