In a stunning turn of events that has sent shockwaves through the hockey world, legendary former St. Louis Blues player and coach Brian Sutter has officially returned to the franchise — this time as a Senior Coaching Advisor.

The announcement was made early this morning during a press conference held at Citi Field, where the Blues are participating in a special promotional event ahead of the 2025-26 NHL season. Fans erupted into cheers as Sutter took the stage alongside current head coach Craig Berube and Blues GM Doug Armstrong.

Sutter, who played his entire 12-season NHL career with the Blues and later coached the team from 1988 to 1992, is revered as one of the franchise’s all-time greats. His hard-nosed leadership, both on the ice and behind the bench, helped shape the identity of the modern-day Blues.

“This organization means everything to me,” Sutter said. “To be back and part of the team’s future — it’s an honor. I’m here to support the coaches, the players, and to help bring another Cup to St. Louis.”

Though Citi Field is typically home to MLB’s New York Mets, the location was chosen for its role in the NHL’s upcoming “Winter Classic Legacy Tour,” which brings together hockey legends and current stars to celebrate the sport’s rich history.

Sutter’s return is seen as a strategic move by the Blues to inject veteran leadership into their coaching staff as the team eyes another deep playoff run.
