In a stunning development that has sent shockwaves of excitement through the AFL community, Collingwood Football Club has confirmed that legendary former player Peter Daicos is returning to the club — this time as a member of the senior coaching staff.

The announcement was made earlier this afternoon at a press conference held at the AIA Centre, where Collingwood President Jeff Browne and Senior Coach Craig McRae jointly welcomed Daicos back into the fold.

“Peter is not just a club great — he’s one of the most gifted players the game has ever seen,” said McRae. “Bringing his football brain, passion, and deep connection to the club into our coaching setup is a massive win for us.”

A Return 30 Years in the Making

Daicos, famously known as “The Macedonian Marvel,” dazzled fans throughout the 1980s and early 1990s with his freakish goal sense, extraordinary foot skills, and football IQ. He played 250 games for Collingwood between 1979 and 1993, kicking 549 goals and playing a key role in the club’s drought-breaking 1990 premiership.

Now, over 30 years since his last senior game, Daicos is returning to lend his experience and vision in a new capacity.

“It’s a surreal moment,” said Daicos. “Collingwood has always been in my blood. To come back and contribute to a new generation of talent is something I feel honoured and ready to do.”

Key Role in Player Development

According to club sources, Daicos will take on a Specialist Skills and Development Coach role, working closely with forwards and midfielders — including his son, current star Nick Daicos, and younger son Josh Daicos, both of whom are instrumental figures in Collingwood’s modern-day success.

His appointment is part of a broader push by the Magpies to inject more footballing heritage and experience into the club’s strategic development.

“It’s rare to find someone with such a natural feel for the game,” said Footy GM Graham Wright. “Peter’s involvement will no doubt benefit our players both on and off the field.”

Fan Reactions Pour In

News of Daicos’ return has been met with overwhelming joy by Collingwood supporters, many of whom took to social media to express their delight.

“This is HUGE. One of our greatest ever is back where he belongs!” tweeted one lifelong fan.

Another commented, “To have Peter mentoring Nick and Josh? That’s the stuff of Collingwood dreams.”

What’s Next?

Daicos is expected to begin his role immediately ahead of the Magpies’ pre-season training block in November. While the 2025 season ended in heartbreak for Collingwood with a narrow preliminary final loss, the addition of Daicos to the coaching ranks signals that the club is already preparing for a serious tilt at the 2026 premiership.

For now, the Collingwood faithful can rejoice — the Marvel is back.
