BREAKING NEWS: Cowboys’ Running Back Stealing the Show at OTAs — and It’s Not…
In a surprise twist that’s electrifying the Dallas Cowboys’ offseason program, a lesser-known running back is making a major impression during Organized Team Activities (OTAs) — and it’s not Pro Bowler Tony Pollard or recent draft pick Malik Murphy. Instead, it’s second-year back **Deuce Vaughn** who’s been stealing the spotlight, turning heads with every rep.
Standing just 5’6” and weighing in at 176 pounds, Vaughn has long been doubted because of his size. But at OTAs this week, he’s shown that heart and hustle outweigh height. Coaches, teammates, and reporters alike have noted his explosiveness, vision, and surprising strength in both running and receiving drills.
“Deuce came in this offseason with a chip on his shoulder,” said head coach Mike McCarthy. “You can tell he’s been working. His cuts are sharper, his reads are quicker, and he’s showing a real command of the offense.”
With Tony Pollard recovering from offseason ankle surgery and Malik Murphy still adjusting to the pro level, Vaughn has seized the opportunity to get more first-team reps — and he’s not wasting a moment. During Tuesday’s open practice, Vaughn broke multiple long runs in team drills and even hauled in a one-handed catch that drew gasps from fans in attendance.
Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer was equally impressed. “He’s not just quick — he’s savvy. His ability to find creases and make something out of nothing is rare. He’s forcing us to think creatively about how we use him.”
The buzz around Vaughn has even reached the veterans. Star receiver CeeDee Lamb praised the young back, saying, “You can’t miss Deuce out there — and not just because of his size. He’s making noise, and it’s loud.”
Though it’s still early in the offseason and no depth chart is set in stone, Vaughn’s strong performance is sparking speculation that he could earn a significant role in the Cowboys’ offense this season — perhaps even a gadget-style package similar to what teams have used for players like Darren Sproles or Tarik Cohen in the past.
If Vaughn continues to dazzle through minicamp and into training camp, fans could be witnessing the emergence of a new star in Big D — one who might have been overlooked by most, but not for long.
