BUFFALO — July 1, 2025
In a heartwarming gesture that has left the hockey world buzzing, Buffalo Sabres legend Gilbert Perreault has once again proven why he remains one of the most beloved figures in franchise history.
The 74-year-old Hall of Famer and cornerstone of the famed “French Connection” surprised the entire Sabres organization this week with a deeply personal act of generosity: gifting the team two luxury buses to support player transportation for the upcoming NHL season.
Perreault, who spent his entire 17-year career with the Sabres, visited the team’s training facility on Monday, where he was met with roaring applause from both players and staff. The atmosphere quickly turned emotional as Perreault stood before the current roster, reflecting on his time with the team and emphasizing the importance of legacy, loyalty, and unity.
“I owe everything to this city, this team, and these colors,” Perreault said, visibly moved. “Buffalo gave me a career, a home, and memories that shaped my life. This is just a small way to say thank you—and to support the next generation of Sabres who wear the jersey with pride.”
The buses, custom-painted in Sabres blue and gold and adorned with images of franchise greats—including Perreault himself—will be used primarily for road games and community events. The gift is estimated to be worth over \$1 million and is being hailed as one of the most generous acts by a former player in recent team history.
Current Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin called it a “jaw-dropping moment,” adding, “You always hear about legends, but when you see someone like Gilbert show up, speak from the heart, and give back like this—it’s beyond inspiring.”
Team president Kevyn Adams echoed the sentiment: “Gilbert’s gesture is not just about buses. It’s about heart, heritage, and what it means to be a Sabre for life.”
As the Sabres continue building toward their future, this powerful moment serves as a reminder of the enduring bond between the team, its history, and the city it represents—with Gilbert Perreault proudly leading that legacy.
