BREAKING NEWS: Ben Stiller Calls Pat McAfee ‘Weird’ for Comments About Him, Timothée Chalamet, and Spike Lee at Knicks Game — ‘Seems a Little Anachronistic or Cliché?’

New York, NY — Hollywood star Ben Stiller isn’t laughing off recent remarks made by sports personality Pat McAfee, who took a jab at the celebrity courtside presence during a recent New York Knicks playoff game at Madison Square Garden.

Stiller, along with actor Timothée Chalamet and iconic filmmaker Spike Lee, was seen courtside cheering on the Knicks — a scene not uncommon during big playoff moments. However, McAfee, on his popular sports talk show, mocked the trio’s presence, calling it “predictable” and questioning why “the same old Hollywood faces” always pop up when the Knicks are relevant again.

In a rare clapback posted to social media, Stiller responded directly to the clip, calling McAfee’s comments “weird” and “a little anachronistic.”

“Not sure why it’s weird to go to a Knicks game when you’ve been going for years. Seems a little anachronistic or cliché to mock people just for showing up. We’re fans too,” Stiller wrote on X (formerly Twitter), clearly referencing his long-standing, well-documented support for the Knicks franchise.

Stiller also defended Chalamet and Lee, pointing out that both are not just casual attendees but “lifelong fans” who support the team publicly and consistently.

The drama stirred debate across sports and entertainment social media circles, with some defending McAfee’s commentary as standard sports talk fodder, while others sided with Stiller, noting the unnecessary scrutiny celebrities face when participating in public fandom.

As of now, McAfee has not responded to Stiller’s post.

This isn’t the first time McAfee’s off-the-cuff remarks have sparked headlines, but the actor’s public reaction adds a fresh layer to the ongoing conversation about celebrity fandom, sports culture, and who “belongs” in the front row.
