In a major announcement shaking up Colorado’s sports and entertainment scene, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE) has confirmed a $300 million renovation of Ball Arena — home to the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche and the NBA’s Denver Nuggets.

The multi-year overhaul, set to begin in early 2026, promises to transform the nearly 25-year-old facility into a state-of-the-art venue capable of competing with the newest arenas across the country. The renovations will feature modernized concourses, expanded fan amenities, upgraded premium seating, and cutting-edge technological enhancements.

A Vision for the Future

“We are proud to announce a transformative investment into Ball Arena that reflects our deep commitment to the future of Denver sports,” said KSE Chairman and Avalanche owner Stan Kroenke. “This is more than just a facelift. This is about elevating the experience for every fan, every player, and every event that steps through our doors.”

The upgrades will include a redesigned main entrance, expanded retail and dining options, and a new LED center-hung scoreboard — one of the largest in the league. Sustainability will also be a major focus, with green energy upgrades, water-saving fixtures, and a push toward carbon-neutral operations.

A Boon for Fans and the City

The announcement has drawn praise from local officials and fan groups alike, who say the investment ensures that Ball Arena remains a cornerstone of downtown Denver’s economic and cultural landscape.

“This is a win for the city,” said Denver Mayor Lisa Calderón. “It keeps our teams competitive, boosts tourism, and creates hundreds of new jobs. We’re thrilled to see this kind of commitment from one of our city’s largest entertainment institutions.”

No Disruption to Game Schedules

KSE has confirmed that both the Avalanche and the Nuggets will continue to play home games at Ball Arena throughout the renovation period, with construction staged during offseasons and between major events. The full renovation is expected to be completed by 2028.

More Than Just Hockey and Hoops

In addition to NHL and NBA games, Ball Arena hosts more than 250 events annually, including concerts, family shows, and other sporting events. The renovation will include improvements to back-of-house infrastructure, allowing the arena to attract more high-profile events, national tours, and esports competitions.

Legacy and Longevity

Originally opened in 1999 as the Pepsi Center, Ball Arena has long been a central piece of Denver’s sports legacy. With the Avalanche fresh off a recent Stanley Cup victory and the Nuggets continuing their playoff dominance, KSE’s investment represents a commitment to continued excellence both on and off the ice and court.

Fans can expect more detailed renderings and construction timelines to be released later this summer.
