Phoenix, AZ — June 29, 2025

In a major move to bolster Arizona’s sports and tourism economy, Governor Katie Hobbs has officially signed into law legislation authorizing public funding for the renovation of Chase Field, the long-standing home of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The measure, passed by bipartisan support in the state legislature, allocates approximately **\$500 million** in state and local funds toward the ambitious upgrade.

Standing at the steps of the State Capitol on Saturday, Governor Hobbs hailed the investment as a “critical and forward-looking step” to ensure the stadium remains a pillar of downtown Phoenix and a source of pride for Arizonans.

> “Chase Field is not just a ballpark — it’s an economic engine, a cultural icon, and the heart of countless memories for Arizona families,” Hobbs said. “This renovation ensures we retain the Diamondbacks and keep our city vibrant for decades to come.”

Originally opened in 1998, Chase Field has hosted more than 2,000 games and was the site of the Diamondbacks’ historic 2001 World Series championship run. Though structurally sound, the facility has seen its share of wear and tear, prompting the franchise and city officials to push for modernization.

The project will focus on overhauling the stadium’s HVAC systems, enhancing fan amenities, upgrading seating and digital infrastructure, and improving accessibility. Sustainability will also be a key focus, with plans to install solar paneling and water conservation technologies.

The Diamondbacks organization has committed to contributing an additional **\$150 million** in private funds toward the renovations, with team President & CEO Derrick Hall expressing deep gratitude to the governor and state leaders.

> “This partnership shows what’s possible when public and private sectors work together,” Hall stated. “We’re not just preserving a stadium — we’re reimagining an experience for future generations of fans.”

Renovation work is expected to begin after the 2025 MLB season and continue in phases, allowing the team to continue playing home games at Chase Field throughout construction.

The investment marks a significant commitment to Arizona’s sports heritage — and to keeping Major League Baseball thriving in the Valley of the Sun.
