In a stunning and emotional development that has electrified the baseball world, the St. Louis Cardinals announced today that legendary Hall of Famer Stan “The Man” Musial will return to the organization in 2025 — this time as a co-owner.

The announcement came during a press conference at Busch Stadium, where Cardinals principal owner William O. DeWitt Jr. stood beside members of the Musial family to unveil the historic partnership.

“It’s the best news we could hope for,” said DeWitt. “Stan Musial was the heart and soul of this franchise for decades. Bringing him back into the Cardinals family as an owner is not only a tribute to his legacy — it’s a vision for the future.”

Though Musial passed away in 2013, the Musial family, working in conjunction with MLB and ownership groups, has successfully negotiated the acquisition of a minority ownership stake in the team under the “Musial Legacy Trust,” ensuring that Stan Musial’s name and influence will continue to shape the Cardinals for generations to come.

Musial’s grandson, Brian Musial, who has been active in sports management, will serve as the family’s representative on the ownership board.

“Stan always believed the Cardinals belonged to the people of St. Louis,” Brian said. “Today, we’re proud to bring his spirit home, officially, to the front office and into the future of this team.”

Stan Musial spent his entire 22-season MLB career with the Cardinals, amassing 3,630 hits, 475 home runs, and three MVP awards. He remains one of the most beloved figures in the history of St. Louis sports.

The Cardinals plan to honor this momentous occasion with a “Return of The Man” tribute game in August, where fans will get a first look at the new ownership direction and celebrate the legacy of the player many consider the greatest Cardinal of all time.
