In a moment that has stirred deep pride and nostalgia across the baseball world, the Seattle Mariners and the entire Major League Baseball (MLB) community are celebrating a historic homecoming. Head coach Dan Division has officially announced that Mariners legend Ken Griffey Jr. has been named the team’s new Senior Advisor to the Franchise.

The announcement was made during a special press conference at T-Mobile Park, where fans, players, and media gathered to welcome back one of baseball’s most iconic figures. Griffey Jr., known affectionately as “The Kid,” spent 13 unforgettable seasons with the Mariners and is widely considered one of the greatest players in MLB history.

“Ken Griffey Jr. is not just a Mariners legend — he’s the face of an era,” said Coach Dan Division. “To have him return in an official leadership role is an absolute honor. His passion, knowledge, and love for the game will inspire every player in this clubhouse.”

As Senior Advisor, Griffey Jr. will work closely with the front office, coaching staff, and player development departments. His role will focus on mentoring young talent, assisting in scouting operations, and serving as a bridge between the team’s storied past and its championship-driven future.

Griffey Jr., now a Hall of Famer and beloved figure across all of baseball, appeared emotional as he addressed the crowd:

“Seattle has always been home. This organization gave me my start, and to be back in a role where I can give back — it means everything,” he said. “I want to help this team win, not just games, but hearts, the way the Mariners fans won mine all those years ago.”

The announcement sent waves of excitement throughout the MLB community. Fellow legends like Derek Jeter and Barry Bonds congratulated Griffey on social media, while Mariners fans flooded the stadium and online platforms with messages of support and celebration.
Hashtags like #GriffeyReturns and #MarinersLegend quickly began trending.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred also released a statement:

“Ken Griffey Jr. has always represented the best of baseball — talent, integrity, and connection with fans. His return to Seattle in an advisory capacity is a win for the Mariners, the league, and the future of the sport.”
