In a significant win for Indiana sports fans and the city of Indianapolis, state and local officials have approved a $777 million renovation project for Gainbridge Fieldhouse, home of the Indiana Pacers. Slated for completion in late 2025, the massive upgrade aims to transform the iconic arena into a world-class entertainment hub, solidifying the city’s reputation as a top-tier sports destination.

The renovation plan, developed in partnership between the Indiana Pacers, the Capital Improvement Board (CIB), and private investors, includes sweeping upgrades to seating, fan amenities, technology, and infrastructure. The goal is to not only enhance the game-day experience but also position Gainbridge Fieldhouse as a versatile venue for concerts, events, and community programs.

Key Features of the Renovation

The project includes:

  • Enhanced seating and fan comfort, including wider concourses, more legroom, and upgraded premium suites.
  • State-of-the-art LED displays and sound systems, improving both visibility and atmosphere throughout the arena.
  • Expanded food and beverage options, with a focus on local Indiana flavors and hospitality.
  • A new outdoor plaza and entertainment zone, which will serve as a year-round gathering place for fans, concerts, and city events.
  • Sustainability improvements, including energy-efficient systems, green roofs, and low-impact design features.

These improvements are designed to future-proof the arena and reflect the growing ambitions of the Pacers, who have recently seen a surge in performance, talent development, and fan support.

Pacers’ Rising Momentum

The Pacers’ approval of this renovation coincides with a new era of competitive excellence for the franchise. With a young core led by All-Star guard Tyrese Haliburton and a revitalized coaching strategy, the Pacers have made two consecutive playoff appearances and are widely considered a rising force in the Eastern Conference.

“This is more than a facelift—it’s a reimagining of what Gainbridge Fieldhouse can be for the next generation,” said Pacers owner Herb Simon in a press release. “Our team is rising, and our home should rise with us.”

Economic and Community Impact

City officials highlight the renovation as a major economic boost for downtown Indianapolis. Over 3,000 construction jobs are expected to be created during the project, with long-term benefits in tourism, hospitality, and downtown revitalization. The Fieldhouse has long been a cornerstone of the city’s sports culture, and these improvements are expected to extend its legacy well into the future.

The project will be funded through a combination of public bonds, private investments from the Pacers and related partners, and revenue generated by events and operations at the Fieldhouse.

Looking Ahead

Construction has already begun on phase one, focusing on behind-the-scenes infrastructure and technology upgrades. Full completion is expected by the start of the 2025–2026 NBA season. Fans will still be able to attend games during construction, with temporary arrangements in place to minimize disruptions.

With the Pacers on the rise and a world-class arena on the horizon, 2025 is shaping up to be a landmark year for Indiana basketball—and this is just the beginning.
