Legendary Kansas State Wildcats football coach Bill Snyder has added another accolade to his illustrious career, making history once again. The K-State Alumni Association has honored Snyder with its prestigious Alumni Excellence Award, a rare recognition reserved for individuals whose contributions have profoundly impacted the university and the world beyond.

 

The announcement was made during a special ceremony at the K-State Alumni Center, where fans, former players, university leaders, and national media gathered to celebrate a man widely credited with one of the greatest turnarounds in college football history.

 

Snyder, 85, became a household name in the sport after transforming Kansas State’s football program from one of the nation’s worst into a consistent national contender. Over his 27 seasons at the helm (1989–2005, 2009–2018), Snyder amassed 215 career wins, led the Wildcats to 19 bowl games, and brought home two Big 12 Championships, firmly etching his name among the game’s greats.

 

“This award is not just for me,” Snyder said during his acceptance speech. “It represents the countless student-athletes, coaches, fans, and families who believed in building something special here at K-State.”

 

The Alumni Excellence Award is considered one of the highest honors bestowed by the K-State Alumni Association, recognizing individuals whose life and work bring distinction to the university. In receiving the award, Snyder becomes one of a select few non-alumni to be honored, underscoring the immense legacy he’s left behind.
